Hiring Support Workers

Choose2 Youth is a not for profit social enterprise in York that works with children, young people and adults who have disabilities and additional needs. We run a variety of provision including learning packages, youth clubs, holiday clubs, sports clubs, one-to-one personal assistant work, occasional trips and many more. We are looking for friendly, hardworking people to join our team as Support Workers.

The main bulk of our provision is informal education. We run personalised learning packages for young adults aged around 17-25 years old. We run small group sessions on Maths and English, skills for life (cooking, washing, ironing, etc), gardening, music, upcycling, gym, swimming, yoga and many more. We also organise supported work placements with various local organisations. These run term time Monday – Friday, 9am-4pm.

Our holiday clubs run Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm throughout the school holidays. Here we do different leisure and social activities such as arts and crafts, sports, cooking, games and trips.

We also run a number of youth clubs and sports clubs for different ages on various evenings per week between 530pm-930pm.

The one-to-one personal assistant work involves being matched up with a young person and supporting them in the community to access leisure and social activities such as going for meals, bowling, shopping, the gym, etc. This is usually for around 3 hours a week on an evening or weekend.

Occasional overnight trips may be offered as over time; this is usually only 2 – 4 times a year and can include Duke of Edinburgh camping trips or residentials at an outdoor pursuits centre.

The role of the support worker will be to support the senior worker in the running and delivery of sessions, assist and motivate the clients to take part, aid understanding, etc. There will be some personal care and moving and handling involved.

We have full time, part time and term time only contracts available and the rate of pay is £8 per hour. Full time will be a minimum of 35-38 hours per week. Full time hours will include Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm and possibly 1 evening. Part time applicants must be available for at least 2 full days per week 9am-4pm. Over time is available.

Successful applicants will be required to provide references, undertake a DBS check and complete a health questionnaire.
